Do you want to learn more about what it’s like to publish an open access (OA) book funded by the EU? Join this free online event from the OABN, in cooperation with OAPEN, which brings together EU-funded authors to talk about their experiences with OA book publishing.
OAPEN has been funded for a two-year period to increase and strengthen the dissemination, discoverability, and preservation of Horizon Europe funded books and chapters. The OAPEN-EU project is developing and maintaining a collection of books funded via Horizon Europe, Horizon 2020, and FP7 framework programmes (incl. ERC funded books) in the OAPEN Library.
This webinar will feature editors from different academic disciplines who have published OA books. They will describe the decisions they made, the routes they navigated and they will reflect on their experiences, including: the challenges involved, the significance of OA for their work, and whether their attitude to OA (or to publishing) changed during the process. It will also cover what the project is about and how to deposit your EU-funded book in the OAPEN Library to meet your funding requirements.
Join us to hear from the following speakers:
- Dr Jochen Hung, Associate Professor of Cultural History at Utrecht University in The Netherlands and one of the Editors of ‘The European Experience‘, published by Open Book Publishers and funded by the European Commission project Erasmus+ Teaching European History in the 21st Century.
- Dr Imre Keserü, Associate Professor of Urban Mobility at Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium and one of the Editors of ‘Strengthening European Mobility Policy‘, published by Palgrave Macmillan and funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme (under grant agreement no. 101069529) and by the UK Research and Innovation under the UK Government’s Horizon Europe funding guarantee (grant no. 10038991).
There will be plenty of time for audience questions, so come along and find out more about how OA book publishing works!
During the webinar, we will also hear about the European Open Research (EOR) repository, a Zenodo-community dedicated to fostering open science and enhancing the visibility and accessibility of research outputs funded by the European Union. The community is managed by CERN on behalf of the European Commission.
The session will focus specifically on the book collection and its role in supporting open access to long-form research outputs. During this brief overview, Carlin MacKenzie will highlight how the EOR book collection on Zenodo enables the open dissemination, discovery, and long-term preservation of scholarly books and chapters. He will touch on key features such as persistent identifiers, standardized metadata, and interoperability within the European and global open research ecosystem.
Designed for researchers, librarians, and research support professionals, this concise presentation will provide a clear snapshot of how books can be shared openly via Zenodo’s European Open Research repository, increasing their visibility, accessibility, and reuse.
The event is hosted by the Open Access Books Network (OABN), an open network that brings together different stakeholders to share essential knowledge and explore new developments in OA book publishing. We hold online events, publish blog posts, and share resources related to all aspects of OA books.
