Hello! Hola! Salut! Hoi! Ciao! Guten Tag! Zdravo! Namaste! Konnichi Wa! G’Day! Kalimera!
In our 2023 survey, we learned that you, the OABN community, has a strong desire to learn more about OA books in different parts of the world, and to see languages other than English used in our activities. We promised that we’d try to have more international coverage and now we’re able to start delivering on that promise with a brand-new blog series: Around the World with the OABN!
Each of these posts will have a focus on OA books in a different country and will, in many cases, be multilingual: written in the language the person usually works in, with an English translation alongside. To do this, we’re collaborating with a range of people in different parts of the world to find out about what’s happening with OA books where they’re based.
These blog posts aren’t intended to be representative of what that entire country is doing for OA books, but rather they aim to provide a snapshot through the lens of a particular person’s work and experiences. This could be on a country level, regional level, organisational level, or even a project-specific level. The authors of these blog posts share the perspective of their communities, in their communities’ preferred language(s), to take us on a journey around the world.
We hope that you enjoy learning about OA books in different communities as much as we have enjoyed connecting with the contributing authors!
Want to write a post for us?
As always, if you are in a position to write a similar blog post about your community or know of someone else who might be, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us – we’d love for this series to be as diverse (and abundant!) as possible.
Stay up to date
We expect the first post to come in April, and then several more throughout the year after that. They will all be published on our blog, and shared via our Mailing List and on Twitter – so sign up for updates!
